10.Beyond a Reasonable Doubt (John 5:31-47)

So the character of a witness is really crucial whenever you're presenting evidence and that's exactly what Jesus is going to do. He's going to present evidence for his deity and his equality with God. And so, the character of the witness has to be above reproach trustworthy, honest, and believable.

The Word Became Flesh (John 1:1-18)

I've entitled the message this morning, the word was made flesh. I can't really claim that title since it's right out of the scripture, but that's what we're going to study today. The word being made flesh, which is what the Christmas story is all about. So let's read it out. the first 18 verses of this wonderful book of John.

The Joy Of God’s Gift (Romans 5:1-11)

You may feel like you're neutral, but God doesn't accept neutrality. Either you're for him or you are against him. Either you have received him or you are at enmity with him. The Bible says that it was just one sin that kept Adam and Eve out of fellowship with God, and it wasn't one of the seven deadly sins. They ate a piece of fruit that they were commanded not to eat.

9. Do You Want To Get Well? (John 5:1-30)

When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, "Do you want to get well?" "Sir," the invalid replied, "I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I'm trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me."

8. Taking Jesus At His Word (John 4:43-54)

This text has kind of a special meaning for me, as many of you know, because our son was in crisis. Gosh, it seems like years ago, but it was just a few months ago, when he was medevacked out of Kauai. And we went with a real understanding that we probably wouldn't come back with him, that that was a good likelihood that he wouldn't live.
 
And so, as I go through this today, I'm going to be sharing some of our own experiences, some of the blessings that God poured out on us, as well as some of my failures as a Christian and as a pastor through this process.

7. Three Strikes: The Woman At The Well (John 4:1-42)

I thought that this was their kingdom that they had to defend, and John the Baptist's disciples were confused about that. But John wasn't confused, and John straightened them out and explained that the kingdom isn't their kingdom, it's God's kingdom. And however, it grows, and however God chooses to use us in his kingdom, that's his business, our business is to be faithful in building the kingdom, not building our kingdom, we're building God's kingdom. So today we're going to be taking a look at a message that I've entitled, Three Strikes, The Woman at the Well.

6. Don’t Believe Everything You Hear (John 4:1-66)

We've been, again, looking through the book of 1 John at the qualities of the authentic Christian life. And, you know, that's what living the Christian life is all about.
 
In fact, when I was at Kapa 'a High the other day, I had a question-and-answer time for about 15 minutes. And one of the kids said that the biggest turnoff for them is hypocrisy. That's only about, by the way, only about four kids out of 25 go to church in that class.
 
And which is, I think, fairly typical. And one of the questions I asked him right at the start is, you know, when you think of a pastor, what do you think of? And of course they said, "Oh, a holy man and a righteous person." And I said,
 
"Come on, tell me what you really think." And then all the stuff came out, you know? And I explained to him that's why I couldn't think of anything worse in life than being a pastor when I was a young person.

5. Kingdom Rivalry (John 3:22-36)

Last podcast, we spoke about Nicodemus and being born again. And on the heels of that, we have a very interesting story, a very interesting account of the disciples. And I've called this message "Kingdom Rivalry." And that's exactly what's going on here. Jealousy, envy, pride, all kinds of ugly sin in the kingdom of God.
 
And lest we get too judgmental, I have to confess myself that I struggle with some of the same things that the disciples did. And I'm sure that all of us do at times. And so we have some really important things that I think we can learn today, not only about ministry, but about life in general and how God wants us to live it

4. You Must Be Born Again (John 3:1-21)

People in our culture just have this very negative view of born -againers. But the fact is that these people would be shocked if they realized that Jesus is the one who delivered that term.
He is the one that coined that term. He is the one that said that. And they probably think it just came up out of the cultural milieu of evangelical Christianity. We kind of came up with this term of being a born -again believer.
 
But Jesus was the one that spoke these words and he spoke them to a man named Nicodemus.
