The Father, to make known the Father, that was why He came. Everything else is an outflow and an overflow of that.

1. What’s the Good Word? (John 1: 1-18)

The book of John was written by the Apostle John, who was one of the primary disciples of Christ. It was always James, John, and Peter. They were kind of on the inner circle. And so John had a real close, up close and personal inside look at the life of Jesus. And he knew him very well. And he knew his ministry very well. He knew the heart of God through Christ very well. And he also, because of the proximity of his relationship with Christ, knew many, if not most, of all the things that Jesus ever spoke or did during his earthly ministry.

When God is working and moving, there are many things we can do to impede and hinder His plan.  We can actually slow down what he wants to do.  There are two primary characteristics of a genuine believer.

God's design is that we make disciples. What is a disciple?  A committed follower and emulator of Christ.

32. What’s in a Name? (Romans 16:1-16)

It has been described as the sweetest sound a person can hear. It can have a lifelong impact on the identity of an individual. It is one of the most defining aspects of our lives. Of course, I’m talking about our names. As parents prepare for the arrival of a newborn, they pour over baby books and contemplate the virtually limitless combinations available -- and their meaning –being particularly careful not to saddle their child with an embarrassing name and at the same time hoping and praying that the name and its meaning will give the child something to aspire to.  My parents named me Robert Brian HallmanRobert Brian = “Bright and shining star”
My family obviously had high expectations for my life. That is until the day at my grandfather’s funeral, when at age 7, I mistakenly signed my name in the guest book as “Robert Brain Hallman” At that moment everyone in my family accepted the irrevocable and disappointing truth that they had made a tragic mistake – instead of “bright and shining star” they were going to have to settle for “Falling Star.”

31. A Heart for the Lost (Romans 15:14-33)

Paul’s burning, driving ambition in life was to faithfully discharge the trust God had given him in preaching the gospel. Obedience to the Great Commission was what motivated everything he did. In 1 Cor 9:16-17, Paul tells us that he was compelled to preach. “Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!”David Brainerd, Missionary to the North American Indians in the mid-1,700s, put it this way: “I care not where I go or how I live or what I endure so that I may save souls. When I sleep, I dream of them; when I awake, they are first in my thoughts.”That’s the kind of heart that Paul had! A passion first for Christ, and a matching passion for those Christ loved.
