What God is presenting in this text of scripture is "The Epic Life" - it's about being a part of the great work of God. We tend to fall back into a good, moral, ethical life and fall back into the things of the world.
Nothing brings value but the great commission God has called us to. There is nothing wrong with what we have in the world, but in and of themselves, these things do not bring us satisfaction.
We want to be about loving God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength, and we want to be about loving other people, unbeliever and believer alike, in the same way that God loves us. The third thing is that we want to be a part of the Great Commission, this great calling: and this great calling is what adds texture to our life: adds significance and gives us an understanding of what's really meaningful. The meaning of the parables:
The Parable of the Virgins: Be ready for His coming!
The Parable of the Talents: Be faithful until His coming!
I The Delegation of Authority
The Kingdom of Heaven is like a man traveling to a far country: [Verse 14]
Traveling to a far country = Apodemeo = “To visit a foreign land”
Matt 21:33 “Hear another parable: There was a certain landowner who planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a winepress in it and built a tower. And he leased it to vinedressers and went into a far country.”
He called his own servants
Servants = Doulos = “Bond slaves” (used 6 times in this parable)
1 Cor 6:19-20 “… you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.”
He delivered his goods to them
Delivered = Paradidomi = “To entrust or commit”
Illustration: The disciples were made fiduciaries of the Kingdom of Heaven
Definition: “A fiduciary is a person legally appointed and authorized to hold and manage the assets of another person for their benefit rather than for his or her own profit.”
