Psalm 103:1-5 - A Heart of Thanks

Genesis 7: Lessons from The Flood

Did the Flood really occur?Was it universal or only regional?Was there really an ark, and was it large enough to hold all the animals? Where did all the water come from? These questions, and many others, are answered for us in Genesis 7.
There are more than 200 cultures which have their own account of the flood including New Guinea, North America, Brazil, Peru, Africa, Greenland, India, China, Egypt, Greece, Persia, Australia, Wales, Eastern Europe, Siberia, and Lithuania.
95%-speak of a universal flood88%-speak of a favored family66%-say it was because of the wickedness of man73%-speak of animals being saved70%-speak of a boat that saved the family57%-say that survivors landed on a high mountain
Many of the accounts also specifically mention birds being sent out, a rainbow, and eight persons being saved.  You may be surprised to discover that there is an ancient Hawaiian flood story:  “Long after the death of Kuniuhonna, the first man, the world became a wicked, terrible place to live. There was only one good man left; his name was Nu’u. He made a great canoe with a house on it and filled it with animals. The waters came up over all the earth and killed all the people. Only Nu’u and his family were saved.

Genesis Chapter 6: God’s Impending Judgement

Here in chapter 6 we have the account of God’s impending judgment on a corrupt and rebellious world. Interestingly, the Lord compared the moral and spiritual climate of Noah’s day to the conditions immediately preceding the return of Jesus Christ.
Luke 17:26-27 “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man--exploding population (6:1), sexual perversion (6:2), demonic activity (6:2), constant evil in the heart of man (6:5), and widespread corruption and violence (6:11)

Genesis Chapter 5: A Father’s Legacy

Many parents like to quote Prov 22:6: “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not turn from it.” But to bring up a child in the way he should go–you must travel that way yourself.
To bring up a child the way they should go, you have to go that way first! 
“It’s much easier to become a father than to be one.”
“There are little eyes upon you, and they are watching night and day; There are little ears that quickly take in every word you say; There are little hands all eager to do everything you do, and a little boy who’s dreaming of the day he’ll be like you. You’re the little fellow’s idol, you’re the wisest of the wise, in his little mind about you, no suspicions ever rise; He believes in you devoutly, holds that all you say and do, He will say and do in your way when he’s grown up to be like you. There’s a wide-eyed little fellow who believes you’re always right, and his ears are always open, and he watches day and night; You are setting an example every day in all you do, For the little boy who’s waiting to grow up to be like you.” (Dhiman, Avleek. “Little Eyes”.)

Genesis Chap 3: Paradise Lost

In our last study in Genesis chapter 2, we found that God created the perfect world, made the perfect man, put him in the perfect environment, gave him the perfect job and blessed him with the perfect wife. It was the perfect life. It was paradise. But it was soon to be Paradise Lost! 
We live in a fallen, sinful, rebellious world. It is Paradise Lost. But one day not long from now, the Bible tells us that Jesus Christ will destroy the existing heavens and earth and create a new one–a perfect one. And Paradise will be restored. In the meantime, where are you? Are you right with God or are you hiding from Him? Have you been clothed with the righteousness of Christ or are you wearing the patchwork of uncomfortable coverings of your own righteous works?

Genesis Chapter 2: The Perfect Life

Have you wondered what it would be like to live the Perfect Life?
Imagine–having a perfect body, being married to the perfect spouse, raising perfect children, working at a perfect job, living in the perfect house in the perfect neighborhood in a perfect world!
Wouldn’t it be wonderful! We sometimes fantasize about a life like that, but we know it’s impossible in this fallen world. But there was a time when living the perfect life was far more than just a dream–it was a reality.
For Adam and Eve, life in the Garden of Eden was perfect! It was the life God originally intended for mankind to experience. It was heaven on earth!
In Genesis chapter 2 we find an expanded, more detailed narrative of the creation of man that was briefly described for us in chapter 1. And it is a description of the perfect life

01 Introduction to Genesis

Genesis 1:1  "In the Beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 
The book of the Genesis is the most important book that has ever been written. It has had a greater influence on humanity and human history than any other work that was ever produced. 
As a result, no other book in the world, has ever been so quoted as the Bible and in particular, the book of Genesis.
If you look at the New Testament, we find over 200 references to the Old Testament. 165 sections and passages of Genesis are quoted in the New Testament, and over 100 of these quotations from the book of Genesis are taken from the first 11 chapters of the book of Genesis.
